This renovation/addition opens up the interior of a charming but claustrophobic 1940s traditional house.

McInturff Architects created a design where the first floor spaces are no longer separated by walls and doors but by freestanding elements—closet, powder room and stair, which allow longer and richer vistas both within and out to the garden. Throughout, the modesty of the original house is preserved in both scale and impact, even while connecting the interior to the garden in a much more direct way.
